A personal word by Yaki Halperin
I always prefer to work in the studio. It isolates people from their environment. They become in a sense . . . symbolic of themselves. I often feel that people come to me to be photographed as they would go to a doctor or a fortune teller - to find out how they are. –Richard Avedon
Many times I have been asked why I chose to become a photographer. I do believe Susan Sontag best described it (in her book "ON PHOTOGRAPHY") as a combination of two basic instincts: hunting and voyeurism.
Continuing with Sontag description, Photography offers me the possibility of creating a small reality, and thru the lenses picking at what I have just created with my staff.
I love the feeling of changing people, transferring them from one look to another. I think of the set as a play, where we, the model, the client the hair and makeup artistes are all making a show. One which will be captured by the camera. This will be the only evidence to its existence.
I chose fashion photography as it offered me the most contact with my subjects.
The recent use of computer further enabled me to "play with realty".
As mentioned, I see my work as a team work, and I truly believe that the end result belongs to us all. Therefore, it is very important to me to acknowledge all participants of each work you see here on the site.
Special Thanks to Tzafi Halperin, my right and left hand, My assistances through the years, some of which have become great photographers themselves, especially the recent one’s Davina Fineberg and Alex Lipkin.
And of course to all advertising agencies, art directors, fashion designers, fashion editors whose part of our joined work is shown in my site.
I hope you enjoy your visit at the site as I enjoyed making the works it contains.
